We hit this (apparently popular) spot right at opening time; it was packed by the time we left. They no longer brew onsite, but outsource to Bristol. The wood-fired pizza was dynamite!! We had their IPA, which was probably one of the best we had throughout our Colorado trip; and also their seasonal Winter Warlock Stout(?) was fantastic - creamy and much less watery than some of the dark beers you encounter at breweries. We would definitely return!

To call Il Vicino a brewery seems a bit odd. At the time of my visit (7/4/05), they brewed on premises but had their stuff bottled by Bristol. This really felt like a quick-serve pizza joint that happened to have beer. It really wasn't a great place to hang out and enjoy a few pints. That being said, the food and 'za were both pretty good.
I thought the Amber (5 out of 5) was their best offering. It had a very interesting ripe-fruit aroma and was very flavorful. It was quite a bit more hoppy than I expected from an Amber. I'd peg the IPA (4/5) as the next best offering. The hoppy aroma was disappointingly faint, but otherwise the beer was enjoyable to drink. The Irish, Porter, and Brown (3/5) were also very drinkable. The Blonde kind of stunk, however (2/5). It had a very, very faint hop aroma and almost no flavor. I know many places try to put one offering on the tap that appeals to your Bud or Miller crowd, but I don't really respect that.
All in all, the place is worth checking out if you want to have some decent beers with some pretty good pizza, but I wouldn't expect to have a great time hanging out.

This was probably the best IPA we had in Colorado. The Porter was really good, too. The food looked really good but we were too full to eat. The brewmaster here is a really nice guy. It seems like this place is worried more about the food than the beer since the bartender didn't even know what beers she should suggest because she doesn't like beer. Definitely go here if you're in the area though. The brewmaster really knows what he's doing and is very supportive of the brewing community. The pint glasses here are cool.

After reading the other reviews before coming I was a little disappointed. The beer was average and so was the food. I later went to Phantom Canon and the Warehouse and found much better beer at both places.

This place has shallow open fermenters in the basement! They looked like mini versions of the ones used at Anchor.
Their Ales are fruity, yet clean tasting and very well made. IPA has plenty of hops (even when most CO beers, IMHO tend toward more malt) in both taste and aroma.
Pizza was good too.

FINALLY!! I've heard so much about the beer of Colorado, and it took my last day of our family trip to find it! High quality beer that tastes as advertised; good sized menu with not an item over $8; and the three of us loved our dinners! After ordering food and drink (even before we sit down), the waitress gave my 10 year old son a plate with pizza dough to amuse himself with...great idea! (far better than the crayon routine) Plentiful portions, true pints glasses and the best service I've had in years make this a must stop in Co. Springs.
